So this is the big 2 0 0 and I am afraid I don't have much to post... but felt its been too long between real posts so obligation has dictated this meager attempt. Work has been very busy the past month or so, and combine that with an incredibly awesome glut of good videogames recently... not much free time. I am way behind on getting models painted, and I have a very big adventure to write for later this month so the busy time will continue in and out of work.
Today is the two year anniversary of Gary Gygax's death.... hope everyone did something D&D-ish in his honor.
In case you haven't heard... A Game of Thrones... confirmed for a 10 episode run on HBO. Should be on TV around this time next year. Amazing news indeed.

some quick musings...
Wow.. amazing eh? Two blog posts in two days.. and no YouTube videos in sight! (though if you haven't watched the cat one I have a few posts down, go do that now)
I am glad that Fall is here... though sometimes I feel like I missed summer. I spend a great deal of my time indoors in air conditioning that the summer sun never really makes itself known. But I miss the days of sitting or walking in the sun, its just not as fun anymore when you have no one to walk in the sun with. So, I stay indoors. But Fall weather is always enjoyable... "sweatshirt weather"...
The other good thing about Fall is the return of regular TV shows.. heh. (yeah, I know, I have silly priorities...) With Torchwood and BSG done for good, and David Tennant's Dr. Who done as well, I need shows to fill the void. The first episode of Dollhouse was this weekend, and I enjoyed it much. And in a couple weeks the new episodes of Clone Wars start... new Myth Busters and Legend of the Seeker soon also... So, regular good programming is on the horizon! I started watching True Blood by way of DVD (Netflix) and its quite good. I think Rome was a better HBO series... and Game of Thrones is gonna be amazing... (pilot episode starts filming next month). They also have revealed the Star Wars live action show will be on air as of 2012. Seems so far away... but I hope they take all the time they need to make it good.
Have a couple friends coming over tomorrow to play some wargames.. gonna play Infinity and try out the new MkII rules for Warmachine... looking forward to it. As of this post Halo ODST is still not working... driving me a but nutty really. Bungie has said in their forums that they are working on it... but a solution does not seem to be coming quickly... maybe I will get some Asassins Creed play time in after all.
I need to read more.. the new Landover novel is out. I will have it on my Christmas list.. my mom always buys me the latest Terry Brooks novel for Christmas each year. But my book back-log is pretty long right now... I need a book club or something to make me get my reading done... heh... I do greatly enjoy reading, but with so much other media competing for my time I find it hard to get much reading done. Once I get started in a good book though, I find it hard to put it down... its just getting started that is hard for me anymore.
If it wasn't for my geeky hobbies... I'd be lost.

The Grind
So.. I was a bit dis-heartened when the 1up gang went through their old lay-off thing.. and still sad about the closing of EGM.. but the website seems to be bouncing back.. they have done a bit of restructuring.. several of the old podcasts are gone, but several more continue on (or are re-done; for example, 1up Yours is now Listen Up)... but they have added a cool blog feature.. in addition to their usually news and video segments they have added a section of "thematic" blogs.. consisting of posts by multiple members of their staff, and occasional special guests. What's the big deal? you ask... doesn't seem that new... other sites have blogs as well... Well, the big deal is that these 1up blogs, so far, cover really great topics, are updated multiple times a week, and are very well written. The two that stand out for me are the Retronauts Blog and The Grind. (they also have the old Hsu and Chan comic from EGM on its own blog too!)
The Retronuats Blog is all about, you guessed it, retro games. This is tied into their excellent podcast (of the same name) Retronauts. Its a really great resource for those who have been gaming since the good ol' days of Atari 2600. (did I just admit how old I am) I actually find myself strangely nostalgic at times with this blog, and other times, its very informative.. you can learn a great bit about video gaming history with this here blog (and its podcast equivalent).
The Grind however, just started recently, and already has become one of my favorite online destinations.. This blog covers role-playing games. It covers ALL role-playing games... as their blurb states "The Grind covers all aspects of the role-playing genre: eastern, western, console, PC, handheld, massively multi player and good old-fashioned tabletop RPGs." They have specific segments running on different days of the week.. one day is a history of Square Enix games, another focuses specifically on upcoming RPG's, and another focuses just on table-top RPGs. As I said, this blog is just getting started, but its a great resource, and a great read.

This blog...
...is no longer a lie...I do indeed own a light saber...

in other news...
Wil Wheaton, besides writing an excellent blog, writes an article at Suicide Girls dot Com called "Geek in Review".. and this week's article is all about DnD 4th Edition. Really great read.
(be warned, that site is known for naked girls, if you don't like naked girls... don't go (NSFW).. though that particular area is usually OK)
some of my favorite bits from the article below...
"This is a game that is fun. It helps you imagine."
"(Speaking of WoW, I wonder if WoW is, for some gamers, "the other woman," threatening to split the party with a siren's call that's taking potential players out of our world and never giving them back...could that be why so many hobby gamers hate it so much? And if so, wouldn't it make more sense to hate on CCGs, which sucked away RPG players ten years before anyone knew what Warcraft was? Hey, as long as I'm kicking over anthills today, I'm going to make sure I stomp on as many as I can.)"

The Juice is Flowing!
So after several months with unreliable and slow internet, and a month or so of NO internet... I finally have a dedicated line to this archaic house and the cave of darkness I was dwelling in can be blasted away by the power of the interwebs... I got a lot of stuff to get caught up on, and many blog posts should happen this weekend... I have lots of things on my computer to watch and listen to now at least, 4-5 episodes of Clone Wars, 6 episodes of Legend of the Seeker, and no less than 29 podcasts (anything from G4 videos, to radio shows -Car Talk and Wait Wait, The D6 Generation and D&D podcast, and my favorite 1up.com podcasts) and 4 credits to spend at audible.com on some audiobooks... sheesh...my computer will be downloading for days! :)
Lots of posts (or maybe just one big one) to come shortly... but for now I leave you with these... after all, thats what the internet is for.. sharing weird and funny videos!

Stuff and some junk...and some trailers...
So it has been overall.. a pretty crappy week. have not been in a real good mood of late and haven't been in a blogging mood. Sunday I went down to Philly with my pal Mike to visit our friends Jason and Josh. Stayed most of the day... went out to eat some Indian food, played a couple fun games of Warmachine/Hordes (won one and lost one) and when we went to leave we found that Mike's car had been broken into... window smashed, his GPS unit stolen.. it sucked. A crappy end to a good day. And the rest of this week has just been.. blah. I am still planning on writing up my reviews on the Clone Wars episodes.. I will end up being a week behind, since I have to wait for episodes to appear online from now on. (the show is good, I will say that much right now.. it also had the biggest ratings for any Cartoon Network show ever, so its target audience -kids - also really liked it).. anyways... the Tokyo Game Show is currently underway.. and lots of info is spilling forth on lots of upcoming games.. these two trailers made very very happy... the Street Fighter one is just a really cool trailer.. not really any new footage.. and the second.. well its a a new foray into a universe I love to play videogames in... Hurrah for Video Games! They make real life bearable! I am going to be putting together my character for our upcoming D&D game tonight/tomorrow.. so expect a post on that soon as well.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog
This is the greatest thing I have seen on TV in years... and it wasn't even on TV! It was made exclusivley for the interent. (by TV phenom Joss Whedon) You can watch it at Hulu.com (or below in my blog) or download it from iTunes for about $5. Its the story of a supervillain, Dr. Horrible, and his quest to join the Evil League of Evil (and its a musical, with very catchy tunes). The best 43 minutes you will spend today...or tomorrow... (if you liked The Tick, this is the same kinda superhero vibe) You can also watch it in 3 parts at Hulu.com if you don't want to watch the whole thing at once.
Edit: Probably better to go right to Hulu.. can't get the embeded vidoe to fit in my blog's space...

some music...
Haven't put a music post up in a while... so here goes.
Lately my music tatses have been pretty geeky and somewhat "retro" sounding... I have been really into music that reflects my gaming roots... that being said I would suggest checking out the following bands.
Dealership. I love this band... and Jane is a really great blogger and also has been a guest on one of my favorite podcasts (1up Yours) (I think I have a serious internet crush on her)
Here are two videos of their songs. Forest is an homage to Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The other song, All the Kids, is just cool.
Forest
All the Kids
Jonathan Coulton. His stuff is great... some times really funny, other times, sad. He wrote a great some about the dog the Russians sent up into space long ago (the dog died btw), and a great song about Ikea. He also wrote the Portal Song (Still Alive). There are a bunch of free songs available on his website. His song Big Bad World One is my personal theme song.
Other recent discoveries..
Man Factory: They have an awesome album entirely about Street Fighter II! Its awesome. And you can listen/download the entire thing for free off their MySpace page...
have i seen that man before
he's got the body of a matador
he reminds me of someone i once met in spain
Vega my conquistador
i am afraid, i'm afraid
why did you have to move all the way to spain?
i am afraid, i'm afraid
i'm all alone, all alone
i need you here at home
well i was waiting patiently
waiting just outside
when i heard a scream
coming from inside
daddy said "chun li, goodbye"
bison got away on a boat t'ward thailand
the captain of the boat had a scar and an eyepatch
yeah bison got away now his old life's erased
he never had to pay for murdering my dad
start the engine right away
pack my bags get on a plane
look out bison here i come
on a seven-fourty-seven 'til your day is done
And theres The Protomen. An odd group that performs rock operas about Mega Man.. very high concept stuff.. their website is pretty awesome.
Other non-geeky relatd stuff.. I am currently listening to alot of Hem, I am Robot and Proud, The Ditty Bops, and Hera. All good stuff, check them out.

Someone may actually end up reading this thing... I better keep it up to date.
I currently have very complicated and inconvenient living arrangements... I live in one half of a duplex house here in Bechtelsville.. but the house is still under construction. For the first few weeks I actually had to walk outside and enter the other half of the duplex in order to use the shower.. thank goodness that is done. (That was damn annoying) But the dining room and kitchen of this side are still unfinished... so I have to spend my days walking around the cans of paint and piles of scrap and tools laying everywhere... I have no oven, just a microwave - and my refrigerator is in the dining room... and after several weeks, I still do not have reliable internet or cable, still have a ton of stuff unpacked and in boxes... and to top it all off... this is not even my final destination. The other half of the duplex (which is even more unfinished than this one) is where I am supposed to be living.. so when that side is finished (who knows how many months that will be) I will have to move again.. *sigh*.. I'd really like to be in a situation where I can finally feel "settled" and feel like I am finally "home"... I don't see that happening soon though..

Random Life Update!
Well.. life continues onward.. not stopping to ever let someone catch up and make some blog posts.. but here I am valiantly trying to keep up and catalog the happening of my life in digital text form.. probably unlikely to succeed, but I will have fun trying... I think...
So.. to get you all caught up.. over the summer I went home for about a month... I was living here in eastern PA with my sister, who then suddenly decided to move back home.. leaving me
kinda stuck. So I went home, got my learner's permit, learned to drive, bought a car, got my License, and (the same day I passed my drivers test) drove across the state of PA (well, kinda from the midway point) (did all that in about 4 weeks) - and now returned here to Eastern PA.. where I like it very much. I share a house with two other gents.. one and Accountant, the other a Park Ranger. They are nice guys, and one is very into video games like me (the accountant).. and we have a Two-360 household for it.
Work goes along fine.. we have been very busy... which is good for us... and we have the big store remodeling project in the next two weeks.. and it will be sooo nice to have the added room and work-flow problems fixed. And the additional computer for getting design work done... I am nearing my 2 year anniversary... which is crazy... seems like it wasn't that long ago I ws in Ohio playing DnD and working at a shitty Kinkos job... things have had their rocky spots out here (still trying to get my finances straightened out) but overall... it was the right move to make.
Have been playing alot more 360 and alot less WoW of late... I still enjoy WoW, but as of late the 360 has had the superior experiences.. Bioshock was amazing... and Halo 3 is a blast. (not to mention "the game" which comes out next month, hoorah!) Also looking forward to some awesome fighting action in Virtua Fighter 5, later this month...
We have a gaming weekend coming up, so I will have to buckle down and finish up my adventure for our IK group.. we play so little, and the gaps between our sessions makes it hard to keep a good focus on the characters.. but we still have a blast when we play. (which is whats really important...)
I am anxiously awaiting the TV return of BSG.. and November is the month (partly) There is a two-hour "movie" airing then called Razor (which will be frakkin awesome).. and then after that the looong wait until 2008 begins again for the final season (Season 4).. best damn show on TV...
I don't watch much else.. other than some Enterprise re-runs on sci-fi, Pain Killer Jane wasn't bad either... and Ninja Warrior on G4 is hilarious! I also watch Attack of the Show from time to time.. but only because I think Olivia Mun is great eye candy...(especially when wearing a Star Wars costume)
I do want to start blogging in my Star Wars blog again.. but thinking up a good post..is difficult... but I do miss that community.... some really smart and very cool people dwell there... and unlike here, people will actually read the blog, lol.

WIDGETS
Widgets make life easy in the blogging world... especially for those of us with limited html-experience. *raises hand*
I added some more to my blog.. as you can no doubt HEAR.. as this crazy music/dance/time thing is going on over there... I'll probably move it, or delete it eventually, but for now.. its cool. It has some very pretty Asian women dancing... why? Who knows...but if you even need to know what time it is.. I have you covered.
Also added a cool iTunes widget.. which updates with my current iTunes info.. music, TV, podcasts, whatever...

WoW
Yes, I still play WoW. Added a link/widget to my toon's info at the bottom of the blog, scroll all the way down (use the slider on the right), the widget wouldn't fit on the side, unfortunately.. so it had to go to the bottom. (at least until I find a better place, or a better widget...)

Photos are up!
So, I have been expanding my ever-so-useful Google Account to now include Picassa Photo albums... a very cool tool that integrates very well with Blogger, GMail, and makes it very easy to upload/modify/share pictures. Lets you add captions and lets people leave comments on them. Highly recommended. (though if you have Blogger, you already know that..) :P
I have a public album of my Warmachine painted figs up there now, so you can take a look. Most were painted a year or so ago, and I do say I have gotten better since... Hopefully soon I will get a Hordes folder up there too as well as more Warmachine pics. (I gotta take the pictures first though...)
You can see it here.
Also have some really awesome Star Wars photographs up there as well, taken by Cedric Delvaux.
I'll be putting more photos up as I get around to it..
MTFBWY, till later.

returning from the nether...
Hello everybody! (not that anyone actually reads this thing...but if you do, let me know)
So... I completely failed at keeping up with my New Year's post (see below) and have not updated anything! But, I am still here, and I do plan on keeping up with this more. I just need to find the right rhythm... and find some things to talk about. (which is always the problem with me... I guess I find my life too boring to talk about most of the time - not alot exciting happens to me here in Bally, ya' know?)
Things are going well. Work is as it has always been. We seem to be busier than we usually are, which makes the days go by faster. (and is , of course, good for the company...) I am still no where near where I need to be financially to get my own place.. but I am committed to moving in somewhere in the Fall. So that means not alot of spending... and alot of bill paying and saving. (neither of which I am good at) I will have to cut back on the Star Wars collectibles, I have some stuff pre-ordered... (stuff from SideShow and Gentle Giant) but I am gonna cut myself off after those. I will be grabbing up some more Hordes models, but I am almost finished with my army until the new expansion releases. So the rest of the cash will go to Mr. Credit Card and Mr. Bank Account and hopefully I will have enough by summer's end to make the move and purchase a vehicle.
GenCon throws another wrench... it costs money and comes at the end of the summer. But the trip is already partially paid-for; and I wouldn't miss GenCon for anything. This year's trip was a bit "up in the air" for a while. My dear friend Jason is currently living in Santiago, Chile. (The blog of his South American adventures can be found here) We were unsure if he would be able to make the trip, and much to our excitement, he will. Its also a blessing to us for without his organizational skills our trip would be a disaster =D And it will be good to see him again. We also have a 5th person joining us, a GenCon virgin, our pal Rob. (and my good WoW companion, Lokron).. not sure how that will impact the trip.. 2 cars? squeezing another into the hotel room?.. tricky things to plan out when you are trying to conserve money. But regardless, it will be a blast! (GenCon always is) The games, the atmosphere, the new stuff, and of course, the companionship, which is where the real fun of GenCon is found.
In local gaming news.. we will have our first Iron Kingdoms game next month.. I am very much looking forward to getting things rolling. This will be my first real time helming a 3rd Edition DnD game.. so here's hoping I don't let my players down, =/ I think it will be fun. I haven't been able to flex my role-playing muscles in a while, so I am ecstatic to get to play Dungeons and Dragons once again, even if it is infrequently. The story should be pretty cool. We have an interesting bunch of characters and hopefully my ideas will hold up and everyone will have fun. This campaign will feature the exploits of a Trollkin Fellcaller, a Nyss Scout, a Rynnish GunMage, and a Gobber Bodger (party roster subject to change at any time with out notice)
In WoW news.. Pondrepof the Orc Shaman has finally hit level 70! Yay! I have really enjoyed the new content in Outland, and the new spells are great.. the Earth/Fire Elemental Totems are very cool, and Bloodlust is the Bee's Knees. Now I am working on saving up the cash to get my flying mount, and then.. well... who knows. But 2 years later.. I am still having lots of fun with this game with no end in sight.
I also enjoy the wonders of the XBox 360 and the XBox Live Arcade. I love trying demos of the games, and have bought several.. including the fantastic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, widely regarded as the best in the series. It is a blast, and a total recall to the 2D adventure days.. a great buy at only $10 (or 800 Microsoft Points) And I am still addicted to Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved... my pitiful high score of about 130,000 mocks me everyday... and adding to my saving money woes... we have a ton of top tier games on the horizon... Mass Effect, Shadowrun, Bioshock, Halo 3, Virtua Fighter 5,... and I know there are a few more...
So, life continues ever onward.. I find myself, even though I live with family, often feeling lonely. Maybe it's the lack of like-minded friends being readily available, and combine that with the lack of romantic companionship, can make one feel lonely even in a crowd. Well, it makes me feel lonely anyways.. that whole bit may have not even made sense.. did it? I find myself making concertive efforts to check the finger of attractive women who come into our store, since 99% of the most attractive of them are married. Actually most of the time they come in with little children clinging to them, so checking their fingers for rings isn't required. But its all for naught.. even if I did find a pretty girl without a ring, what the hell am I gonna say while I am working? (and work is only time I really have any interaction with people outside my family) I guess I could wait until they leave, look up their number in our database and call them later...
"Hi , you don't know me, but you came into our store today and I thought you were cute and seemed like a nice person, and thought maybe we could get together some time.. eh? We have your name, address, and phone number saved in our computer here at the store, so I just looked it up after you left earlier today.. wasn't that pro-active of me?" and at that point I would hear the *click*... LOL, talk about borderline stalker... yeah, that's not a good idea. I have at times, thought about joining one of those online dating sites, you know, the high profile ones like eHarmony.com or Match.com.. but crap, they cost like $100 for membership.. geezus... I'm not that desperate... am I?
Si, I spend my time dabbling in WoW, playing 360, doing some reading (currently reading Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman), painting miniatures, trying vainly to organize my Star Wars collection (I have a Google Spreadsheet underway that will eventually catalog my whole collection), and working on the IK adventures... so pretty much entirely geek stuff. In other words, just being myself. I also listen to a surprising amount of podcasts... everything from videogames (look no further than 1Up Yours and The 1Up Show), to anime, to Star Wars (SWAN), and back again... thoroughly enjoyable and great for when you are painting miniatures. :) And I have been watching a couple TV shows, the wonderful epic Rome on HBO, and what could very well be one of my favorite TV shows ever, BSG. However, this week is the season finale of BSG and there won't be any new episodes till 2008! G'ah! What a horrible long wait!... thankfully iTunes has Firefly on tap, which will be my next show... as well as anime! (yes, anime on iTunes!) They have several new anime shows which look pretty cool (Gunslinger Girl, Speed Grapher) , so I will be checking those out as well.
Well.. that's a good long post to get me going again... I still plan on trying to put some stuff up on my 1Up page and get back to the Star Wars blog too... I will keep ya posted.

Once there were two... now there is one.
I now condensed everything so that I only have one blog. The other one is now extinct. Mainly I was running two so one could separate my geeky posts from the "real" ones.. but then again... I don't separate those things in my non-online life, so why should I do that here? My geekiness pervades all! There is no escaping it!
I copied (and cleaned up, and added to) a couple of my posts from the other blog and put them up in this one. They are marked as "refurbished". Gonna do some work on my Links list, and also add some Book and Music lists up there too. Mainly it'll be a list of my current favorites...
EDIT - Added some links to several of my favorite online comics! Check out Order of the Stick (D20 based comic), 8-Bit Theatre (Final Fantasy based comic), Penny Arcade (general geek/gamer comic), and - of course - Homestar Runner, home of Strong Bad Email!
EDIT - Added a list of books and music to the sidebar!
Still working on getting a solid color scheme that I like... I think I have almost got it... any thoughts? Any colors you don't like? Let me know...
And for those who haven't seen this yet... check out this awesome video! (thanks to Phil B. for pointing this out to me originally!) Weird Al + World of Warcraft = Hilarity!

BETA...not VHS... BETA
Wowzers! I have updated to Blogger Beta! Look at all the cool new features! A sidebar featuring cool links that I frequent quite often, a more user friendly archive tool so you can go and read all my old blog entries, a nifty pic at the bottom of the blog, and the very neat "Label" feature which allows you to sort through blog posts to read only the ones you want. I think I may combine my two blogs together now since the posts can now be easily sorted out... I may not get to that until next week though...
I must say the "Label" feature is really quite well designed, and the new formatting tools are great as well. Kudos to the new format fellows! And to make if better, its even linked to your Google account (if you have one, which I do) Kupo! Its kinda like Xanga Premium, except it doesn't suck and its FREE. Kupo Kupo!

Star Wars Blog Update!

So finally, after a long hiatus, my Star Wars blog has been updated! This post is the first I am writing in a series where I recall all of my old Star Wars memories (which will of course culminate/climax with the arrival of Dizzy Dog the Balloon Guy) This one details the early years... think The Wonder Years but with out the sexual overtones...
I also plan on starting some reviews of item in my Star Wars collection. reviews of the current waves of action figures... mini-busts and statues from Gentle Giant Studios, 12-inch figures from Sideshow Collectibles, etc...
I was going to copy/paste the entry here... but it really should be viewed on its original page. But feel free to comment here. :) anyway... click the link!

In response to : lokipan's Xanga Site - 10/23/2006 1:06:23 PM
lokipan's Xanga Site - 10/23/2006 1:06:23 PM
So I feel that I must respond a bit... and since Xanga won't let off-of-site comments.. I'll put them here on mine (which does allow off-of-site comments, so feel free to comment)
First, even though I seldom practice what I preach -mainly due to my own self-consciousness, or laziness- I feel change is important. And I wish you the best in your future endeavor to move to new locales. I also have found "home" to be very beneficial, and in my experience, only good things arrive from being closer to your "home". So, I wish you the best in that. I really do.
I must say though... I do resent your claim that I have "grown up". I have in no way, "given up" on table top gaming.. I play whenever I am able, though, much to my dismay, those times are few and far between. My gaming group is spread across half the state of PA, so our efforts to get together fall short often. However; we do game, and try to get together at least once per month. A task that requires several people to drive over 3 hours to get together, yet we do it out of our friendship and desire to game together. Several of us in this group have made similar pledges at one time in our lives, to continue gaming with each other until we are old and grey (and I have known these guys since high school, and in one case, my whole life). Much like you said yourself.. you do not want to let gaming slip do to "being an adult"... you are not alone in that. But I think the problem is you seem to feel being an adult excludes gaming... where, in my experience it has made it better. It may not be as easy... but I have found it much more fulfilling...there is very little about this hobby that is "child-like"... it requires you to put yourself in the shoes of another person, in another world.. a task that mentally, can be very hard to do.. but the more you commit to it, the far grander it is.
My decision to leave Columbus was made difficult for one reason and one reason alone... gaming with you guys. The problem was that there was nothing else... nothing at all. Gaming is a wonderful thing, it has brought (and will continue to bring) much joy and fulfillment to my life. I will never let it go. and anyone who lives in a room full of Star Wars figures can hardly be considered grown up...

Starting again for the second time!
So here we are! This blog, as I mentioned over in the other one.. is where I will focus on all my "geek" stuff. I know alot of people won't really care about my geek stuff : Star Wars collecting, World of Warcraft, role-playing, and Warmachine, to name a but a few... so I figured I would give the blog reading public a choice! Rejoice in your choice-full-ness!
